ABOUT THIS LIVESTREAM
Virtual Railfan’s live train cameras at La Plata, Missouri, capture the action on BNSF’s Southern Transcon, the former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) mainline between Chicago and Los Angeles. Hosted by the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation (APRFH) at the historic Amtrak station and Lookout Park, the cameras include a PTZ at Lookout Park and two fixed-view cameras (east and west, members only) at the station. Located at milepost 312.7 on the Marceline Subdivision, this feed showcases 50–70 daily trains, including BNSF freight (manifest, intermodal, and locals) and Amtrak’s Southwest Chief (Chicago–Los Angeles) with two daily stops (eastbound #4 in the morning, westbound #3 in the evening).
The APRHF preserves La Plata’s rail heritage through exhibits and historical efforts, supported by sponsors Duane and Curt Lundgren in memory of the Great Northern Railroad. The Amtrak station serves as a key passenger stop, and the cameras offer a prime view of one of the busiest rail corridors in the U.S.
